What Is Quilted Fabric? Where Is It Used?
When everyone sees a jacket with a stunning design, they look at its quality, texture, and stance, right? What would you say if we told you that the reason those designs look so impressive is quilted fabric?
Quilting (kapitone) is produced by placing a filling material such as fiber, sponge, or felt between two fabrics and stitching them together in specific patterns. This stitching and joining process is called quilting. Specially designed quilting machines perform the stitching continuously and smoothly without stretching the frame. By patterning the fiber and fabric in this way, quilted fabric is created.
Quilting has been practiced for a long time. It can be produced from almost any type of fabric and can be made with many different filling materials. Most commonly, these fabrics consist of fiber, felt, sponge, etc. The stitching and joining process is carried out using multi-needle machines. From a single piece of fabric, quilting can be done in geometric shapes such as diamonds, squares, rectangles, triangles, and stars. Quilted jackets, vests, bedspreads, quilts, and tablecloths are among the most common areas of use.

Quilted Fabric Usage Areas
As in the past, it is still used today in the production of clothing and home textile products. From these fabrics, coats, vests, bathrobes, jackets, and some ethnic garments, as well as small rugs, tablecloths, linings, storage bags, dowry items, bedspreads, jackets, and vests can be made.
Is Quilted Fabric Stretchy?
Because it is created by combining layers through different processes, quilted fabric is not stretchy. Since the felt or fiber fabrics placed between the two outer fabrics have a firm and thick structure, the fabric does not stretch. As it consists of at least three layers, it does not let cold pass through. Therefore, quilted fabrics generally provide high thermal insulation. The type of fabric produced and the filling material used between the layers are very important. According to these fabric types, special care should be taken when cleaning quilted fabrics. In addition, when washing is required, they should be hand-washed in cold water.
