Felt Insole Making

Our feet are one of the hardest-working parts of our bodies. At home, at work, while walking or standing—almost everything we do relies on them, making them an essential part of our lives. For this reason, wearing comfortable shoes is very important for foot comfort. Moreover, not only the shoe itself but also the insole of the shoe plays a crucial role.

Today, there are many types of insoles, but among them, felt is one of the most affordable and healthiest options. Generally, we place felt inside our shoes to keep our feet comfortable. In addition, during winter days, felt helps keep our feet warm while also increasing comfort. Compared to insoles made from other materials, wool felt insoles can reduce impact force when walking on uneven surfaces. Since wool insoles naturally adapt to the shape of your foot, they are ideal shoe accessories for outdoor activities such as walking or for long days when you need to stay on your feet. In this article, we will share some information with you about making felt insoles.

But first, let’s talk a little about wool felt.

Wool felt, considered one of the oldest known textile products, is formed by the interlocking of fibers from the wool of various animals in an alkaline environment created with water, soap, and heat. Felt is resistant to moisture and heat. It is long-lasting, does not deform easily, and can be used on all surfaces. For most of us, the most familiar felt products are felt-tip pens and felt shoe soles.

Now let’s move on to the question of how to make wool felt insoles at home.

First, check what kind of felt insole you want and whether you have the necessary materials. If you have what you need, you can start making felt insoles. Since there are many types of felt, be sure to choose the most suitable shoe felt for your foot.

Materials

  • Felt
  • Scissors
  • Pen for marking
  • An insole from a shoe you already use (for taking measurements)

Cutting the felt so that it is not larger than your shoe insole size will make your work easier.

Let’s start making the insole.

  • Place the felt under the insole of the shoe you are using and mark it properly by measuring around the edges.
  • Cut the felt starting from the marked lines according to the measurements.
  • Finally, place the cut felt inside your shoe as an insole.
  • And there you have it—you’ve made your own wool felt insole at home.

Felt Insole Slippers

As the soles of your shoes wear out, their comfort decreases. With this method, when your insole wears out, you can simply make a new one and continue using your shoes. Now that we’ve answered the question of how to make felt insoles, you can prepare several felt insoles in advance and keep them ready when you have time.

Our feet are always an important part of our health. If we take good care of them, they will carry us everywhere. In our previous article, we kept our feet warm by making felt slippers—now we’ve added insoles for even more comfort.

Wishing you continued good health.
