What Is Wicking Felt and Where Is It Used?

In ready-to-wear clothing, we buy many products that we like, but we do not know how these products are sewn or by which methods they are produced. One of the materials that must be used in many different garments or textile products that offer us a stylish and comfortable appearance is filling materials. Filling materials of different sizes and thicknesses are used in trouser parts, collars, shirt cuffs, and the inner linings of coats. These filling materials, which provide the desired stiffness and a neat appearance to garments and add quality to the fabric, are preferred in different textile products depending on their hardness and softness. Today, we will talk about the use of fusible felt, one of these filling materials.

Where Is Fusible Felt Used?

Felts produced from synthetic fibers are generally used in patchwork applied to cushions, sofa covers, and garments such as sweaters, cardigans, and vests. At the same time, in works such as bedspreads, bags, and prayer rugs, fusible felt is placed between the lining and the fabric as a filling material to create a thick, soft, and smoother structure. It is used by tailors in the sewing of jackets and coats. You can choose first-quality fusible felt, which is white and odorless, in different weights according to its area of use.

Fusible felt, which is used as a filling material that provides softness and thickness, is not adhesive. The felts we produce do not contain carcinogenic substances. They do not cause bacteria, fungi, or mold. They are suitable for washing and long-lasting.

Outside the textile field, it is used by ceramic manufacturers as machine filters and as strips in sliver and carding machines used in yarn production.

How Is Fusible Felt Produced?

Felts formed by pressing fibers together are produced from natural or synthetic fibers. Artificially obtained fibers or wools are tightly bonded together under intense heat and pressure by adding auxiliary materials such as oil and soap, and after various processes, felt is obtained. Before the felt is produced, the fibers or wools go through a softening process. The softened fibers are separated from each other and made ready for felt production. In the next step, the fibers placed on a flat surface are wetted with warm water and wrapped into rolls using molds. Pressure is applied to the rolled felts. With the applied pressure, they interlock with each other, thus forming felt. The obtained felts are cooked and dried, then made ready for use.

In addition to our wool felts, we serve our valued customers with many different product varieties created from felts produced from pure standard polyester fibers or standard fiber raw materials obtained by recycling first-quality PETs. Our products are mainly used in various sectors such as automotive, white goods, construction–insulation, filters, ready-to-wear clothing, quilting, home textiles, decoration–hobby, carpets, furniture, bedding, artificial leather, shoes–slippers, hygiene, and medical industries.
